This past Saturday I was finally able to get up on my set of beautiful, alluminum stilts sent to me from  Daddy Long Legs Stilt Company - and I am completely in love. These things just absolutely kick butt!

Now, don't get me wrong - by no means could I be considered an authourity on stilts, but I am an authority on me, and I know what I like. Ya know what? I love these things. They shipped me the heavy duty aluminum stilts, as I told them that I have a penchant for beating the crap out of things, and take them to the limits of either them or me. (I'm finding as I get older they seem to be making things stronger, though, as my body usually gives out first.

CD Review

Sugar Dames The Sugar Dames

Sirens of the Broken Heart

(Well, it had to begin somewhere, and Jenn & Christina, aka The Sugar Dames, have the dubious honor of being the first CD review I have ever done. This being the Big Top Review section, however, I guess I need to begin somewhere – I only hope that I can do them the justice they deserve… - kSea)

In their début album, The Sugar Dames have pulled together a very impressive album that envelops the listener in a lush atmosphere of sound, with frequently haunting music and deliciously silky vocals that wrap around you and hold you tight. From the song “She Wore Red” which feels like it belongs as the theme of a David Lynch movie, to their cover of “Bang Bang” which stands far above the way Cher sang it, they have created something that warrants respect and appreciation.

There is strength, sorrow, and wisdom in “Sirens of the Broken Heart”, but fortunately they have avoided falling into the trap of playing the scorned woman – for in the lyrics there is also a playfulness that can only come from a couple of lovely women who have not only been through quite a bit in their own personal experiences, but have still kept quite a bit of their sugar.

The Sugar Dames have created quite a significant CD in “Sirens of the Broken Heart”, and I feel quite pleased to admit – I’m a huge fan of theirs.

Make sure you check out the interview that they did with Big Top in the “Sounds” section as well – they’re some pretty damn cool Dames.

Book Review - "The Aerialist" by Richard Schmitt

“Running contrary, crosscut to the grain of regular habits: your evening news, your family dinner, retiring at a decent hour. Running at night when regular people are tucked away, stoplights blinking yellow, streets shining wetblack from streetlights and sweepers, the Twenty-four-hour Man staples red cardboard arrows to telephone poles. He uses a stepladder and a staple gun to set the arrows just out of reach of school-bus-waiting kids, weekend yard-sales people, religious nuts with paper proclamations; he sets them at precise angles which speak the subtle tongue of his people. He is the one who points the way.”

Cirque du Soleil “The Spark”

Igniting the Creative Fire that lives Within Us All

Created by Lyn Howard – Written by John U. Bacon

While living in New Orleans, this book was sent to me from Los Angeles, as a gift from a dear friend & fellow performer, Stardust Angel, who at the time I had only met online…

A truly enjoyable and inspirational read in all aspects, “The Spark” welcomes you deep into the inner workings of Cirque du Soleil.
